Norwich Museums Learning
In the heart of the beautiful medieval city of Norwich we offer three contrasting museums, each with a different appeal.
• Norwich Castle – an iconic building and Norfolk’s world-class county museum
• The Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell – a wonderful, recently refurbished museum in the heart of the city
• Strangers’ Hall – an atmospheric Tudor merchant’s house
Teaching History in 100 objects
Three objects from Norwich Castle’s collections have been chosen by the British Museum and the Department for Education to be part of a prestigious new initiative to help teach History – Teaching History with 100 Objects.
The Happisburgh handaxe, an object of world significance, the unique Anglo-Saxon figurine known as Spong Man and the Matlaske Reliquary, a beautiful gold Medieval pendant created to hold a relic to ward off disease.
Each object appears on the website with clear information for teachers on how the object fits into the curriculum, an object fact sheet, teaching ideas based on the object, images which can be printed or used on interactive whiteboards in the classroom and links to further resources.
