Older Visitors

Gressenhall is ideally suited for visits from groups of older people. The museum offers a welcoming environment that is packed with places and things to bring back memories and encourage conversation.


Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse has a shop, café, adventure playground, picnic areas, baby changing facilities, accessible toilets and parking on site.

The Mardlers’ Rest Café

The Mardler's Rest Cafe at Gressenhall The Mardlers' Rest Café in the museum courtyard offers a selection of teas, coffees, cakes, sandwiches and light meals in a friendly environment. The building was once the isolation ward for the workhouse, but today it is a relaxing and welcoming place.

If you live close by or are just passing, remember you can drop into the Mardlers' Rest Café for lunch, coffee or a snack without having to pay museum admission.


Visitors enjoying a picnic at GressenhallGressenhall is perfect for picnics. There are picnic tables and benches around the workhouse buildings and in the adventure playground. There is also an indoor picnic area for when the weather is less than perfect.
