Older Visitors
Gressenhall is ideally suited for visits from groups of older people. The museum offers a welcoming environment that is packed with places and things to bring back memories and encourage conversation. Please search our event calendar for reminiscence days and over 55s events.
Facilities
Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse has a shop, café, adventure playground, picnic areas, baby changing facilities, accessible toilets and parking on site.
For more information about the café and picnic areas, please see below.
The Mardlers’ Rest Café
The Mardlers' Rest Café in the museum courtyard offers a selection of teas, coffees, cakes, sandwiches and light meals in a friendly environment. The building was once the isolation ward for the workhouse, but today it is a relaxing and welcoming place.
If you live close by or are just passing, remember you can drop into the Mardlers' Rest Café for lunch, coffee or a snack without having to pay museum admission.
Picnics
Gressenhall is perfect for picnics. There are picnic tables and benches throughout the site and there’s an indoor picnic area for when the weather is bad. Watch the world go by in the museum courtyard or find a quiet corner by the river.

Our only regret is that we ran out of time as there was so much to do.
Our two youngsters love the place…The exhibits just go on and on and you really can't see it all in the day….I can't speak highly enough of the whole experience.
