Land Girls and Lumber Jills – Norfolk’s Forgotten Army
'Land Girls and Lumber Jills’ explores the story of the Women’s Land Army and Timber Corp in Norfolk.
It is an enduring tribute to the forgotten heroines of the British Home Front during two world wars. The museum has a long association with the Women’s Land Army, and has held reunions since the 1980s.
Frieda Feetham, a veteran of the Women’s Land Army, said:
“I would like to thank you all for telling our story. We were always so tired at the end of the day because we worked so hard and, at the end of the war we didn’t have the recognition that other groups did.
It is a real pleasure that our efforts are now being recognised. The girls are all extremely pleased that their stories are going to be told in this gallery.”
The gallery showcases the museum’s collection of costumes and the real life stories of local land army girls.
Our only regret is that we ran out of time as there was so much to do.
Our two youngsters love the place…The exhibits just go on and on and you really can't see it all in the day….I can't speak highly enough of the whole experience.
