People using the Decorative Arts study roomNorwich Castle Study Centre offers first-rate facilities to study fine and decorative arts, archaeology and natural history. There are millions of items in the collections. By using the Study Centre, you can focus on specific collections and select the objects you want to see to support your area of interest.

Study in the peace and tranquility of one of our four well-equipped private study rooms. Here, objects and works from the collections are brought to you by museum staff who can assist your research with their specialist knowledge.

Making an Appointment

Lady viewing an item from the NMAS collectionsTo view items from the collections, you must contact us first to make an appointment. Our friendly staff will help to confirm what you want to look at, and you will be booked into the appropriate Study Room.

Please note that departments may require two weeks notice for an appointment.

To view a book from one of the departmental libraries a minimum of 24 hours notice is required.

Identifications

If you have an object or piece of art you would like our curatorial staff to give advice on, you can take it to the Study Centre reception desk (not Norwich Castle). You will be advised by our staff on the day as to how long the identification could take.
