Museums and Galleries
You will find a wealth of collections in our museums illustrating all aspects of Norfolk life, heritage and environment. They make a great day out for families, schools or anyone wishing to find out about our county.
What can I see in Norfolk Museums?
Fine and Decorative Art
The principal art collection is in Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery but there are also good collections at King's Lynn, Great Yarmouth, Thetford and smaller numbers at other museums.
Archaeology
The main archaeology collections are at the Norwich Castle, with minor displays at Lynn Museum and Thetford Ancient House Museum.
Natural History
Norwich Castle has natural history galleries, including beautiful dioramas depicting the major habitats of Norfolk, British Birds, British Mammals, Foreign Mammals and Birds.
The Ancient House Museum at Thetford depicts the wildlife and landscape of Breckland. There are small natural history displays at Cromer Museum and the Lynn Museum.
Geology
Cromer Museum has displays on the geology of the North Norfolk coast. The Lynn Museums has a small display on the geology of West Norfolk. The Norwich Castle geology collection is currently in storage pending a new strategic initiative, but there are temporary exhibitions of geological material from time to time.

Social History
The principal social history collections are held at Strangers' Hall and Bridewell Museums in Norwich, the Town House Museum in Lynn, the Ancient House Museum in Thetford, the Cromer Museum, the Tolhouse Museum and 'Time and Tide' in Great Yarmouth and of course the major rural life collections are at 'Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse', near East Dereham.
