Time & Tide Museum of Great Yarmouth LifeShowtime: Yarmouth's Circus Story
Saturday 27 March - Sunday 31 October 2010
Roll up, roll up! Discover the colourful history of the circus and its links with Great Yarmouth.
Exhibits range from the beautiful to the bizarre, there is circus paraphernalia from Peter Jay of Great Yarmouth’s Hippodrome, and Don Stacey whose collection covers a a lifetime’s work with
the circus.
See posters, paintings and props, including a chimp bicycle from the 1950s and a giant razor – used by an elephant to ‘shave’ an audience member, before dousing them with water. There are costumes from Ring Mistress Carrie Harvey, sequinned clown outfits and a leotard once worn by Miguel Vazquez – the first trapeze artist to successfully complete the quadruple somersault.
Artist Katherine Hamilton will also be showing her work, from a recent residency at the Hippodrome. There’s everything you need to re-live the heyday of the greatest show on earth.
