T&T: Balancing Ladies

Exhibits range from the beautiful to the bizarre, there is circus paraphernalia from Peter Jay of Great Yarmouth’s Hippodrome, and Don Stacey whose collection covers a a lifetime’s work with the circus.

See posters, paintings and props, including a chimp bicycle from the 1950s and a giant razor – used by an elephant to ‘shave’ an audience member, before dousing them with water. There are costumes from Ring Mistress Carrie Harvey, sequinned clown outfits and a leotard once worn by Miguel Vazquez – the first trapeze artist to successfully complete the quadruple somersault.

Artist Katherine Hamilton will also be showing her work, from a recent residency at the Hippodrome. There’s everything you need to re-live the heyday of the greatest show on earth.
