Sailing Drifters and Whale

After about 1830 the Dutch fishing fleets had stopped coming to Great Yarmouth, the Scots replacing them as serious rivals during the 19th century, following the herring south. The heyday of the east coast fishing industry was during the latter years of the 19th and early 20th century. In 1913, for instance, there were 1,163 boats fishing from Yarmouth. Most of the catch was exported to Germany and Russia.
