Norfolk collections centre

The collections held by Norfolk Museums Service are primarily about the county of Norfolk, its history, culture and environment.  We also have some wonderful collections that are a window on the world.

The Norfolk Collections Centre is our open access storage facility. With over 3 million objects is our overall collection we need somewhere big enough to store all those not currently on display! Among our ‘star’ objects in store are the West Runton Mammoth, the famous Norwich Snap Dragons and a Mustard Stamper used to crush mustard seeds at the Colman’s factory in the 19th century.

Although the Collections Centre has to function as a working museum store we set aside a number of days each year to allow the public access behind the scenes to explore our stored collections. In addition, we are open for pre-booked West Runton Mammoth Tours deliver by our Natural History Curator, Dr David Waterhouse.

For more information including opening details, please visit the Shine a Light blog, in which we highlight objects from our stored collections, often with a focus on the Norfolk Collections Centre.
