A free Saturday morning club for young people who love museums, history, investigating and creating! Museum Club gives you a chance to explore our three Norwich Museums: Norwich Castle, The Museum of Norwich and Strangers’ Hall. Explore behind the scenes, work with museum collections and take part in a range of creative projects.
Royal Palace Reborn
Museum Club members decided to learn more about the Royal Palace Reborn project to redevelop Norwich Castle Keep, particularly the objects which will be going on display in the newly redesigned medieval galleries. We invited Castle Keep Curator Andrew Ferrara to join us so that we could see some of the objects for ourselves and learn more about people who worked, fought and prayed in the medieval era. Andrew showed us examples of shield brasses and medieval pottery and took us behind the scenes into the storerooms so we could see how the objects are documented and kept safe.
We decided to make our own clay creations inspired by some of these objects, including decorative jugs, sword pommels and crucifixes. We are planning to display this work in a pop-up exhibition that will show visitors the type of objects they can see in the redeveloped Keep. Although lockdown has postponed our pop-up plans, we’re excited to continue our involvement in the Royal Palace Reborn project over the next few years. Why not join us?
