Crome's Norwich: 1821-2021

2021 was the bicentenary of the death of John Crome, one of Britain’s great Romantic artists.

In 2021, the museum hosted a popular exhibition called Crome’s Norwich: 1821-2021, which took a closer look at the artist’s relationship with his native city, then and now, through the lens of contemporary photographer, Nick Stone.

Nick walked in the footsteps of John Crome, along river banks and city paths to revisit the locations which inspired him. The result was a collection of stunning images, which blended Crome’s works with contemporary photography, bringing the story of Crome’s Norwich up to date.

To accompany the Crome's Norwich exhibition, Nick Stone created a self-guided walking tour which takes in some of the locations featured in his work. Follow in Crome's - and Nick's - footsteps and see the places which inspired them both. And why not take your own snaps too?
