The event
Meet Saxon and Norman costumed characters to compare and contrast their cultures, re-enact the Battle of Hastings and Saxon rebellions, and take a tour of the Castle to discover why it was built, how it functioned and how important it was to the Normans.
Please note: During the Royal Palace Reborn redevelopment project, the Keep tour is a video tour with narration by a costumed character.
Suitable for all exam boards.
Aims and learning outcomes
- Describe the society of late Anglo-Saxon England.
- Explain how and why William of Normandy became King of England in 1066.
- Describe and explain the Saxon rebellions.
- Explain the key features, importance, nature and purpose of Norman castles in England.
